Graeme Feltham, P.Eng., MBA – President

Graeme Feltham began his role as the President in 2020, bringing over 25 years of experience in the natural gas industry. Before joining Apex, Graeme held various executive positions in the gas distribution industry, where he led teams in operations, construction, engineering, customer experience, and innovation. Graeme also led a team driving initiatives in renewable natural gas, hydrogen blending and other decarbonization projects. He is currently on the Canadian Gas Association Board of Directors. He is a past Chair of the Canadian Standards Association’s Petroleum and Natural Gas Industry Systems Strategic Steering Committee and an Executive Board member of Pipeline Research Council International.

Graeme holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Alberta. He has also completed the Ivey Executive Program and is a Professional Engineer.

Daina Makarenko, P. Eng. – Vice President, Operations and Engineering

Daina Makarenko is the Vice President of Operations and Engineering. Daina oversees the design, construction, maintenance, and safe and reliable operations of Apex’s distribution system. Before this role, she was the Director of Engineering Services, responsible for Engineering, Planning, Land, GIS, Business Development, and Innovation. Daina also has Operations experience as District Supervisor of Distribution Operations for Leduc, Apex’s largest district, and design experience in Engineering. Daina is currently a member of the Canadian Gas Association Standing Committee on Operations and Safety.

Daina holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta and is a Professional Engineer.

Daina was nominated in 2021 for the Women’s Infrastructure Network (WIN) Emerging Leaders award.

Mike Stock, CPA, CA – Vice President, Financial Services & Regulatory Affairs

Mike Stock is the Vice President of Financial Services and Regulatory Affairs. Mike oversees the financial services, customer relations, and regulatory operations. Before this role, as the Vice President of Financial Services, Mike was responsible for overseeing the organization’s accounting and customer relations operations, including financial reporting, internal controls, budget and planning, tax, gas settlement, billing, and call centre functions. In 2017, Mike’s responsibilities were expanded to include oversight of all regulatory matters of the organization, including rate applications and regulatory compliance. Since joining Apex in 2005, Mike has served in increasingly senior financial leadership roles. He is currently a member of the Canadian Gas Association Standing Committee on Regulatory Affairs.

Mike holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan and is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta.

Mike has appeared before the Alberta Utilities Commission as a company witness or representative for a number of major regulatory proceedings and Government of Alberta initiatives.

Karen Raitz, CPHR – Vice President Corporate Service

Karen Raitz is the Vice President of Corporate Services. Karen oversees human resources and labour relations, environment, health and safety, information technology, fleet and building services, and procurement. Karen’s long career at Apex has given her a range of experience in marketing, business development, franchise relations, organizational and strategy development, human resources, learning and professional development, and labour relations.

Karen holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta and is a Chartered Professional in Human Resources. She is also a Registered Commercial Gas Consultant, a graduate of the Corporate Executive Program at the University of Alberta School of Business Executive and Lifelong Learning, and a graduate of the HR Executive Program at the University of Alberta Centre for Executive and Management Development. She also holds certificates in Industrial Relations and Advanced Labour Relations from the Industrial Relations Centre at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.

Karen is a past Chair and Board Member of the Nisku Business Association and past Chair and Board Member of the Black Gold Health Foundation.
