Daina Makarenko is the Vice President of Operations and Engineering at Apex Utilities, where she leads the design, construction, maintenance, and safe, reliable operation of the company’s distribution system. Prior to this role, she served as Director of Engineering Services, overseeing Engineering, Planning, Land, GIS, Business Development, and Innovation. Daina also brings hands-on operational experience from her time as District Supervisor of Distribution Operations for Apex’s largest district in Leduc, and has a strong foundation in engineering design.
She is an active contributor to industry advancement as a member of the Canadian Gas Association (CGA) Standing Committee on Operations and Safety, as well as a member of the steering committee for CGA’s Women in Natural Gas (WiNG) – a program designed to elevate the next generation of women leaders across Canada’s energy sector.
Daina holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta and is a Professional Engineer. In recognition of her leadership and impact, she was nominated for the Women’s Infrastructure Network (WIN) Emerging Leaders Award in 2021.
